The district of Kedjebi has long time suffered of many diseases due to unclean water. Few volunteers came up with some funds to dig dug wells. These dug wells have are open to the sky and anything could fall inside. People drunk water from the rain and from other sources such as river streams, dams where animals drink, and hand pumps. Project Description

In October 2011, the founding members of H2O-Oasis, being conscious of these problems in Kedjebi decided to fund from their pocket the implementation of bore holes. The goal of this project is to allow the provision of safe drinking water and promote safe hygiene practices for an estimated population of 1,500 persons.

Project Activities

Hand Pump Rehabilitation: rehabilitation of an existing well and installation of a new hand pump Hygiene Promotion: using village to village method to communicate the importance of utilizing the hand pump and conducting proper sanitation practices Pump Mechanic Training: The project organized and trained villagers in the community for the maintenance of pump.

Project Beneficiaries

In general, the project benefited the kedjebi township, surrounding villages and market goers, estimated at a population of 1,500.

WOE

PROJECT NAME: Solar Pump Rehabilitation Project

The village of Woe needs help with water issues. Many water borne diseases such as Cholera, Malaria, Guinea worms, and Hepatitis are killing children and adults. Last August, a team from H2O Oasis visited this area to conduct a diagnostic. It is estimated that US $ 20,000 would be sufficient to help provide three solar panel bore holes in that area. The organization is working to raise fund and projects to finish the boreholes by December 2013.

 

APROMASI

PROJECT NAME: Hospital Equipment Project

Buruli ulcer (BU) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans (MU), affecting the skin, subcutaneous tissue,and sometimes the bone. It is mainly caused by unsafe water which villages drink from river streams and unpurified wells. The Global Evangelical Mission Hospital is located at Apromase in the Ejisu submunicipal, a village about 10 km southwest of Ejisu and also about 12 km southeast of Kumasi. The hospital has thirty-five beds. It is owned by the Global Evangelical Church with its headquarters in Accra, the capital city of Ghana.

Project Description

In August 2012, the founding members of H2O-Oasis visited the hospital to gather all the information needed to help the hospital function efficiently. The information gathered are not enjoyable. The hospital has only one laboratory which is the size of a bathroom. There is only one microscope in the laboratory and this is not allowing the doctors to treat patients appropriately. The surgery room has very few types of equipment, and there is no air condition in the room, with the room temperature rising sometimes to 80 degrees. The Oasis organization is currently working hard with other partners in the USA to provide hospital equipment to Global Evangelical Mission Hospital.
